The NGC Story


NGC was founded in 1987 by numismatic luminary John Albanese. An original founder of PCGS, John had a slightly different vision for coin grading and certification, so he took his ideas to create the Numismatic Guaranty Company, or NGC. Although Albanese has since sold his stake in the company, the principal concepts behind NGC and PCGS remain the same... to accurately grade and authenticate rare coins for the protection of the consumer. Along with PCGS, NGC is a preeminent third party grading company in the marketplace and hundreds of millions of dollars of their coins are sold every year.

Mark Salzberg, the CEO, is considered one of the most knowledgeable and capable numismatists in the entire marketplace, and he is very active in the daily activities and grading of coins to this day.

According to their official statistics, NGC has graded over 20 million coins with a market value in the billions.
