About Nickels

The United States series of nickel coins, or 5-cent pieces, specifically those struck after the silver half dime issues, officially began in 1866 with the Shield nickel design and continue today with the Jefferson nickel designs. The different types include: shield nickel, Liberty (V) Nickel, Buffalo (Indian head) nickel, and the Jefferson nickel designs. There are many famous issues but the most famous of all is the 1913 V-Nickel which is one of the best known rarities in all numismatics. Other popular key date nickels include: 1867 Rays (Proof), 1885, 1886, 1912-S, 1916 double die, 1918/7-D, 1937-D 3-leg Buffalo, including others. If you would like some assistance with your nickel collection, contact one of us at David Lawrence today.
