About Standing Liberty Quarters
The Standing Liberty quarter series is one of the most popular issues of 25-cent coinage in the catalog. Collectors love the series for numerous reasons including the beautiful design, and also the fact that the series is short and lacks a major rarity to block completion. There are a few important key dates including the 1916, 1918/7-S and 1927-S. Many collectors of high grade coins (MS64 and above) differentiate whether they want to assemble coins with a full head. To get the FH designation a coin must have a complete and visible ear hole, the 3 feathers around Liberty's crown and a complete hairline around the ear. In some cases, this designation can add a lot of value (and rarity) to a coin. The 1926-D, for example, is one of the most common dates in MS64, but the full head coin is one of the rarest in the set. At David Lawrence, we've specialized in Standing Liberty quarters for many years and handled many of the rarities in top grades.
