About 3-Cent Nickels

The production of Three Cent Nickels was begun in 1865 due to the hoarding of their silver counterpart during the Civil War. The series is a rather difficult one to collect due to the lower mintages of the later dates. The keys to the set are the 1884, 1885, and 1887. While price guides reflect rather modest values, actual pieces are very difficult to find. Other tough dates include 1883 and 1889.
