About Classic Commemoratives
The Classic United States commemorative series consists of 144 different silver issues and 14 gold issues struck between 1892 and 1954. Most of the silver coins are struck in 50-cent denominations but there was one 25c issue (Isabella quarter) and Silver dollar (Lafayette). The gold issues are generally $1 gold coins with a $2.50 Sesquicentennial and Pan-Pacific designs as well as the famous $50 Pan-Pac slug coins. Both the silver and gold commem series are widely collected because the coins are fairly easy to locate in high grade and the multitude of designs are quite popular. The 144-piece Silver collection is more commonly assembled as a 50-coin type set, with one coin of each issue.
