]About Early Copper
Early United States copper coinage includes the half cent and large cent issues of 1793-1856. These issues are widely collected by beginners and also the most serious of coin collectors who collect many of the issues by die variety and other unique characteristics. U.S. half cents and large cents are found in all manner of condition owing in large part to their rarity. Some coins are extremely rare and others quite common thanks to hoarding over the years. Famous rarities and key date coins in the early copper series include: 1793 half cents, 1796 half cents and large cents, the Chain cents of 1793, 1793 Strawberry cent, 1794 starred reverse cent and the 1795 Jefferson head cent. All of the issues are desirable in high grade, especially with the original red coloring intact. PCGS, NGC and CAC coins are a must for collectors.
