About Silver Dollars
Silver dollars are the most romanticized of all U.S. coinage. The first official silver dollars were struck by the U.S. mint in 1794 and one dollar coins
with silver content were struck off until 1934. The fact is that silver dollars rarely circulated because their size, weight and face value exceeded the
demands of their times. Especially in the case of Morgan and Peace dollars (1878-1934) these coins were minted to make use of the vast quantities of silver
being mined in the Western frontier. Morgan dollars are especially popular among U.S. coin collectors and are quite possibly the most highly collected of
all U.S. coins.
