About Small Cents

Small cents have been issued by the U.S. Mint from 1856 to present, starting with the Flying Eagle cents in 1856-1858. Indian cents followed from 1859-1909. The now-famous Lincoln-cent designed has been in use since 1909 with the obverse design remaining largely unchanged in all these years. The reverse designs have been changed in 2009 to commemorate the centennial of the first minted coins.
