Auction #120 > Lot #4062 > Classic U.S. Coins > Buffalo Nickels 1937-D 5c 3-Legs PCGS MS65 DLRC #: 195209  Track

Item Description:
PCGS Population: 44, 4 finer

Amazing luster and excellent detail, with attractive bronze, orange, and gold toning over classic gray surfaces; and a classic to boot.

Another example of well-intended but over zealous die polishing, this variety is much better known than its 1936-D 3 1/2 leg cousin, though not as rare based on current estimates. The 1937-D 3-Legs Buffalo nickel is iconic in U.S. coinage, keeping company with the 1909 VDB and 1955 double die pennies as coins eagerly sought after by those not otherwise interested in complete series collections. Because this variety was not discovered until most coins had already gone into circulation, gem coins and above are scarce.

Sold For: $33,350.00
