Classic U.S. Coins > Shield Nickels 1880 5c NGC MS65 DLRC #: 311230  Track

Item Description:

By far the most difficult dates in the entire Shield nickel series to locate as a business strike, particularly so in gem condition. It is our belief that the 1880 Shield nickel -- in business strike format -- may be the single most underrated 19th century issue. That is indeed a bold statement, however, any specialist of the series will tell you that the majority of coin on the population/census reports are proofs that have been entered on error. We have seen countless of these mistakes, always frustrated by the reality.

This coin is the real deal. A genuine business strike 1880 Shield nickel which will be a prized asset to the finest collection. Lustrous and mostly white with a hint of gold and great luster. A prize for the serious collector and student of numimsatics.
