1869 $10 NGC Proof 63 Cameo ex: Pittman DLRC #: 313551 Track
One of Just 10-12 Known According to Akers
Wow! We are privileged to offer this wonderful proof Eagle rarity. From an original mintage of 25 coins, David Akers reported in the Pittman catalog that this piece is one of just 10-12 known. The pedigree of this piece is not listed on the holder but it is clearly the Pittman coin thanks to a couple diagnostic marks where is sold for $22,000 as lot #1948 in May 1998.
The coin is quite pretty for a Proof 63 with even golden coloring and sharp cameo frosting on the devices. There are noted hairlines in the fields but they really do not distract from the aethestic qualities at all. The reverse, as one would expect, is even nicer with Proof 64+ qualities.
Over the years, very few proof examples of this date have ever appeared on the market and they always command strong numbers at auction. The most recent appearance was a PCGS Proof 65 (not designated as cameo) which brought $80,500 (Heritage: 8/06; ex-Bass). This particular coin has sold at auction one other time since Pittman -- just one year after that sale, as an NGC Proof 63 Cameo, where it brought $29,900 (Heritage: 1/99).
We hope you won't miss this opportunity to add this rarity to your cabinet.
