Amazing quality for this date, with nearly pristine surfaces. Intense, yellow-gold color, with hints of orange highlights. A true prize for the advanced collector.

This date started out with a huge mintage of 1,779,750 coins, but has turned out to be one of the top rarities in the series, most likely due to destruction of the vast majority of the coins. The present rarity is close to that of the 1926-D, another coin with a high mintage but a low survival rate. To date, NGC has certified only 113 1929 Double Eagles, with 59 at the MS-64 level, but only 4 in MS-65, and none finer.
