Item Description:
Here is a very curious coin. One of the dies must have come loose in the coining press and clashed with the opposing die leaving clash marks which don't line up as expected. Close examination of the field above the motto shows the top of the wreath clashed in the obverse die, rather than near the date where the dies are normally aligned. On the reverse, note the long series of edge dentils clashed at the bottom of STATES. It is very unusual for the Mint to allow the obverse and reverse dies to clash in this fashion. A great coin to examine and theorize over. Faded mint red on both sides and very attractive for the grade.
