Item Description:
A gorgeous AU specimen with proof-like surfaces blanketed by light toning. Very lustrous with the eye appeal of a mint state coin. This is an outstanding example of a very rare issue in almost any grade but one that is essentially unobtainable in grades better than EF40. Even the fabulous Eliasberg Collection only had a Fine example. All of these were struck from a single pair of dies late in 1841. The number struck was small to begin with and they passed into active circulation almost immediately. As of the cataloguing date, NGC has certified 12 specimens. Half of them are in lower grades than this one.
