John Brush

President Senior Numismatist Joined DLRC: 2006

John Brush

Now the President of DLRC, "JB" joined DLRC as a staff numismatist in 2006. For the last several years he has led the coin department and the company as a whole in continuing to offer the coins and service that define David Lawrence. In addition to overseeing the company as a whole, John travels extensively to coin shows throughout the country, where he is well-known among the dealer community as one of the sharpest buyers in the country.

A collector since age five, and a full-time professional dealer since 2002, JB joined DLRC after working for several years at Spectrum Numismatics, one of the largest wholesale firms on the West Coast.

Dealing in coins valued from five cents to over a million dollars, John enjoys all types of numismatic treasures. He claims that his parents forced him to collect coins as a child and would not support his hobby of collecting baseball cards. It would become a family affair and the trio would travel to coin shows throughout his childhood, even missing school occasionally... These trips turned out to be the best part of his education!

John graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Religion and a minor in History at Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama before attending Emory University for graduate school. After a summer position with another large coin dealer, John cut the schooling short to deal in coins on a full-time basis. As a professional, John has taught classes at several ANA Summer Seminars, including an Advanced U.S. Coin Grading class. He’s an associate member of the PNG, life member of the ANA, SCNA, and BRNA and has won several awards for his numismatic articles. In his spare time, John, his wife, Ruth, and their two sons enjoy traveling throughout the country and cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers and Atlanta Braves.

If you have any questions regarding coins, collecting, history, or just want to talk about the Vols, feel free to give John a call at 1-800-776-0560.

Devin Hipp

Senior Numismatist Joined DLRC: 2015

Devin Hipp

Devin Hipp joined the staff as a Senior Numismatist in March 2015 after many years of working closely with David Lawrence Rare Coins as an industry colleague and wholesale trading partner. He is recognized by many in the field for his expansive breadth of numismatic knowledge, including expertise in United States and world coins with emphasis on coin grading and variety attribution.

His interest in numismatics began at age 10, when his curiosity was piqued by groups of world coins brought back from his father's business travels in Europe. During his middle and high school years, Devin authored over a dozen articles on specialized numismatic topics that were published in the American Numismatic Association's weekly emails for young numismatists called YourNewsletter. He also received six scholarships to attend the ANA's Summer Seminar programs, where he completed courses such as Modern Minting Process, Errors and Varieties, Early American Coppers, 19th Century American Numismatics, Advanced Coin Grading, and American Colonial Coins.

Devin graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in August 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Business Management and a certificate in Marketing. Shortly after graduation, Devin pursued his entrepreneurial ambitions and left his numismatist position with a prominent Atlanta area coin dealer to start Devin Hipp Enterprises LLC, a successful numismatic business specializing in wholesale trading and building high-end certified coin collections for select clients. From the company’s inception in October 2012 until March 2015, Devin became the largest volume submitter in the state of Georgia of coins to third party grading services and was widely regarded for his keen grading ability and eye for purchasing raw coins for certification.

Devin is a life member of the American Numismatic Association and the Georgia Numismatic Association, and he is a member of the Blue Ridge Numismatic Association and Florida United Numismatists.

He also pursues interests in world paper money, fine watches, vintage guitars and amplifiers, Porsches, and playing the piano. Devin lives in Virginia Beach with his wife, Elise, and their three children.
