    PCGS #70013. While the vast majority of the double eagles recovered from the S. S. Central America shipwreck were dated 1857-S, there was also a fair number of 1856-S double eagles recovered from the Ship of Gold. This stunning example is tied for finest known Full Serif, S Tilted right example. Clean and lustrous surfaces radiate ample mint luster and showcase ideal sunny-golden coloration throughout. A choice example that saw fantastic preservation this would be an exciting addition to any collection of high-end double eagles or shipwreck treasure. CAC approved for quality and eye appeal.

    Very tough Civil War era gold piece struck at the San Francisco mint, and later recovered from the famous SS Brother Jonathan Shipwreck. Only 5 coins finer from the shipwreck! This example retains noticeably more eye appeal than most from this pedigree with rich golden-orange color and a strong look for the grade.

    The 1873 Open 3 double eagle can be located through MS63 with diligent searching, but higher-grade examples are rare. In fact, PCGS has graded only a single example finer than the present offering. Warm honey-golden surfaces are exceptionally smooth and shine with satiny luster. The strike is sharp to full throughout and the eye appeal is fantastic! An important piece sure to catch the eye of astute gold collectors.
