These tokens are British and were never circulated in America; however, their mention of Benjamin Franklin lands them in the U.S. colonial category. The press on this coin, often called a Franklin press, is believed to be what Ben Franklin used during his time in London. Attractive mahogany brown surfaces are crisply defined and softly lustrous.

An intriguing issue as the origin of these coins is not clear, it has long been considered a "Colonial" coin and possibly American's first dollar. New research has likely uncovered that the coin was actually struck in Germany as a commemorative token. This original XF example boasts pleasing gunmetal gray and olive color with nice remaining luster, especially around the date. Whatever its origins, this is still an absolutely choice example, a wonderful piece of history and a tangible reminder of the struggle that ensued against the British leading up to the formation of a proud nation, the United States of America.
PCGS #878904. A pleasing example of this major type! The Newman 1-B is most available variety of the historically significant Cross After Date Fugio coppers. Clearly defined with pleasing orange-brown coloration. A pair of prominent planchet flaws near the upper reverse border is noted but the overall eye appeal is strong.
Listed in the Guide Book of U.S. Coins (2007 Ed, page 50-51) as Billon Coinage. These coins were struck by France as general issues for Colonial usage in the New World.

Obverse-The 6 of the date is small and high. The space between the 0 and 6 is equal to the space between the 8 and 0. (On the more common Small 6 with Stems variety, the 0 and 6 are closely spaced.) Reverse-No stems on the wreath.
A very tough variety to locate in any grade. Attractive for a circulated example. Not terribly dark in color and no major flaws or distractions whatsoever.

The 1811-dated Half Cents are likely far rarer than mintage numbers conclude. As most were made earlier in the year, they most likely held a date of a previous issue. As a result, it is estimated that as few as 25,000-30,000 pieces were produced, making it a very difficult date to obtain in all grades. This is the most affordable example that we have handled and while it is indeed a subject of environmental issues, the details are quite nice and it's a perfect piece for the "affordable" set.
