For over 40 years, the foundation of David Lawrence Rare Coins has been our staff. Whether it was just Dave in 1979, or the 15+ full time employees today, everyone at DLRC is dedicated to providing the highest level of customer service in the coin business. We're a big family at DLRC, and we treat our clients with the same level of respect.

We're here to help you with all aspects of your collecting and selling interests. Our numismatic staff is led by a team of seasoned professionals with over 100 years of combined experience in the industry. From shipping to sales, someone is always available to help. Regular office hours are M-Th. 8:30am-7:30pm EST / Fri. 8:30-6pm EST / Sun. 7-9PM EST. All emails and voice messages will be given prompt attention.


John Brush

President Owner Senior Numismatist Joined DLRC: 2006

John Brush

John Brush is the President and Owner of David Lawrence. Along with managing the office and buying & selling coins, a huge part of his time is spent assisting with the curation of the Hansen Collection. John joined DLRC in July 2006 as a staff numismatist after leaving his Wholesale Trader position at Spectrum Numismatics (now Stack’s-Bowers). John also serves as the Chairman of the Industry Council for Tangible Assets (ICTA) and as a Board member of the Professional Numismatists Guild.

Originally from Anderson, SC, John got his Bachelor’s in Religion with a Minor in History at Birmingham-Southern College. He finished one year of graduate school at Emory University before escaping to pursue his passion of becoming a coin dealer. When he’s not surrounded by coins, John spends time with his wife Ruth and two sons, Wesley and Luke cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers and the Atlanta Braves.

Jason Smith

Vice President of Operations Senior Numismatist Joined DLRC: 2002

Jason Smith

Originally from Falls Church, Virginia, Jason came to Virginia Beach in 1982 to attend Virginia Wesleyan College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Business Management. After graduating, he decided to stay in the area and work in retail management. He also owned a sports card and collectibles store in a local mall.

From 1992 to 1995 Jason worked at a local coin shop in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he did retail as well as serving a network of coin dealers on a wholesale level. After a seven-year stint in the telecommunications industry as a sales manager, Jason re-entered the coin business as a member of the David Lawrence team in 2003. Jason is a key component to the executive and numismatic team, where he sets up the online auctions, assists customers daily, and manages the office.

Matt Kavalek

Matt Kavalek

Matthew Kavalek joined DLRC in March of 2006 and started out in our imaging department, quickly moving his way into the Numismatic Support team. Matthew helps our team of numismatists with everything from answering phones, describing coins to customers, and assisting with our auction consignments. Paul Nugget

Senior Numismatic Advisor Joined DLRC: 2019

Paul Nugget

Paul Nugget, a world-renowned gold coin specialist, joined DLRC as a Senior Numismatic Advisor in January of 2019. His interest in coins started at the age of eight and led to a career in professional numismatics that has lasted almost 50 years. Paul is most well-known for his specialty in gold coinage and has been involved in trading over one billion dollars in U.S. gold coins as well as having purchased and sold pieces of practically all classic U.S. gold coins ranging from 1795 to 1933. He is a long-time member of the Professional Numismatists Guild and can be seen with other members of our traveling staff at major shows. Paul resides in his home state of New York and serves his existing clients as well as helps DLRC serve a wider base of customers.

Brian Kint

Vice President of Finance Joined DLRC: 2018

Brian Kint

Brian Kint joined DLRC in April 2018, but he has been involved with our company for several years as he was an Audit Manager with Wall, Einhorn & Chernitzer, P.C., a public accounting firm, in which DLRC was one of his accounts. As the Vice President of Finance, Brian oversees all financial management including managing banking relationships, financial reporting and most importantly, keeping our vendors paid. Brian got his BSBA from Old Dominion University and is active in his community as a board member and officer of the Academy of Music in Norfolk as well as serving on the VA Opera’s Hampton Roads Board of Governors.

Marty Sabio

Imaging Manager Inventory Manager Joined DLRC: 2004

Marty Sabio

Marty, our Inventory and Imaging Manager, joined DLRC in 2004. He started in Imaging and shipping part-time and now manages the Imaging Department, preparing and distributing coins to his hard-working coin photographers for the David Lawrence website. Within the office, Marty also manages and organizes the general inventory: To & from Shows, for collections, for auctions, and for availability on our website. Son of a U.S. Navy serviceman, Marty has lived in Virginia all his life, and graduated from Old Dominion University in 2000. He enjoys spending time with his family, listening to music, and watching and playing sports. He is a major sports fan, rooting for UNC basketball, the L.A. Lakers, Washington Redskins, and FC Barcelona.

Mary Lee

Credit Manager Joined DLRC: 1994

Mary Lee

Mary Lee is the longest tenured DLRC employee with 25 years of service and dedication to our firm since 1994. She handles the accounts receivable aspects of all orders and makes sure they are prepared properly for the shipping department. If you have any problems concerning your order, including payment, layaways, returns and shipping, please contact Mary, and she will be happy to assist you. Her no-nonsense attitude and strict professionalism are ever-present and no, she will not call you by your first name.

Michael Coari

Shipping Manager Joined DLRC: 2011

Michael Coari

Mike is our Shipping Manager but has worn many different hats since joining DLRC full time in 2011. Currently he is charge of packing orders and receiving all incoming coins. He is also on our traveling staff and can be seen at most coin shows helping with show logistics and processing for the coin guys. Mike graduated from Old Dominion University with a BA in History and a Minor in Sports and Facility Management, during which time he also managed a movie theater. Outside of work, Mike enjoys watching baseball and movies.

Katherine Lintz

Accounting & Shipping Administrator Joined DLRC: 2010

Kathy Lintz

Katherine joined David Lawrence in June of 2009 and as the Accounting and Shipping Administrator, she assists Mary with payments as well as making phone calls and sending emails to clients. Katherine is from originally from Pittsburgh, PA and is an avid Steelers fan. She loves to spend time with her daughter Lilly, especially on sunny beach days.

Emily Bateman

Coin Group Assistant Joined DLRC: 2016

Emily Bateman

Emily joined DLRC in 2016 as the Coin Group Assistant soon after moving to Virginia Beach. She looks after all show and travel arrangements, as well as answers phones, edits and sends out our auction and CWL emails, scans in new inventory and anything else that is given to her. Originally from Durham, NC, Emily graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2011 with a BA in English Literature. Emily lives with her husband Chase, an avid Tarheels fan like herself. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, reading and listening to podcasts.

Adam Losh

Imager Joined DLRC: 2013

Adam Losh

Adam came to DLRC from building commercial furniture for six and a half years. He has earned an associate’s degree from ECPI in computer science with a specification in web design. Adam was a city champion wrestler in his day and played volleyball, basketball, and football in school. Nowadays he can be seen playing in pool leagues often at Mel’s Place in Virginia Beach. Adam lives at home with his brother and loves the NFL and is a big Patriots fan!

Julia Smith

Customer Support Specialist Joined DLRC: 2018

Julia SMith

After working summers at DLRC, Julia joined DLRC full time in 2018 as our Customer Support Specialist. As a member of our social media team and Coin Group, Julia assists clients with buying and selling, consigning and auction bidding. She also updates and helps maintain the ever growing impressive D.L. Hansen Collection. You may also see her at many of the national conventions as a member of our traveling staff. Julia is available Sunday nights from 7:00 to 9:00pm during auction closing to assist with bidding and account questions. If you have any questions, Julia is happy to assist! Katie Kvello

Shipping Specialist Accounts Receivables & Financial Assistant Joined DLRC: 2017

Katy Kvello

Katie joined DLRC in 2017 as an Imager in the Imaging Department and now is responsible for processing and pulling day to day orders, receiving and processing payments, as well as packaging/shipping orders. Katie spends the second half of her day assisting our Vice President of Finance with daily financial reports and reconciliations. If you need an extra hand with anything around the office, Katie is your go-to girl! She is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration within the Strome College of Business at Old Dominion University. As a native to Virginia Beach, Katie enjoys going to the beach or the local waterpark with her son Lincoln and her husband Ross. If you want to talk The Office, margaritas, or the latest serial killer documentary released on Netflix, Katie is open for discussion!
