The S-mint Seated quarters of the late 1860's are extremely desirable and underrated. The 1867-S is no exception, from an original mintage of 48,000 pieces struck, the production was nowhere near the quantity needed to meet the demands of commerce in the thriving post Civil War western economy. An approximated 150 to 200 examples are extant today across all grades and this beauty is the sole finest known example by far, the next finest being a pair of MS64s. The surfaces are essentially flawless with satiny luster shining beneath the original skin of palest gold. Fully struck central devices standout in razor sharp definition though the peripheral stars are incompletely brought up, as is typical of the issue. Overall, an incredible piece of unmatched eye appeal and technical quality as confirmed by its CAC seal of approval.
