An immense numismatic rarity, the 1871-CC Seated Liberty quarter hails from a small mintage of 10,890 pieces. The majority of the mintage circulated widely at the time of issue leaving no more than 45-60 examples extant across all grades today. Of the survivors just three Mint State specimens are known. PCGS has graded two coins, including the present example, in MS64, and a single MS65 specimen. This magnificent choice example showcases well-detailed design elements, with a touch of softness on the third star. All known 1871-CC Liberty Seated quarters are of a Repunched Date variety clear on both 1’s in the date. The vibrant surfaces are a delight to behold with swirling pearly-grey, lavender, and peach tints coating both sides. Blanketed in exceptional luster this is a simply stunning piece and a legendary rarity for the infamous Carson City Mint.
