The 1969-S doubled die is a very significant and major rarity in the Lincoln cent series, the 1969-S doubled die is one of the true set-stoppers in the modern Lincoln cent collection. While the 1955 and 1972 doubled dies garner a lot of attention, the 1969-S is the true rarity with, likely fewer than 50 known examples. The doubling on this variety is bold and clear, with the sole exception of the S mintmark all of the obverse lettering is sharply doubled. Light, even wear touches the highest points of the design elements though plenty of bold detail remains. Nice luster remains through medium-brown patina with Lincoln's portrait a deeper chocolate brown. On the reverse subtle lavender and golden undertones shine through.
