Item Description:
Canada did not produce gold coins until 1912. The run of $5 and $10 was short lived: only 2 years, because in 1914 World War 1 began. The majority of the coins produced never saw circulation as they were locked away in secure Canadian bank vaults, undisturbed for more than 75 years. In 2012, less than 15% of the hand selected best quality pieces were sold by the Bank of Canada; the remaining 200,000+ coins were melted. (KM-27) 0.4838 oz gold.
