The 1889-CC is a famous key date issue in the Morgan series. In general, this coin is almost always found in circulated grades -- for some reason cleaned XF-AU coins are often seen in the marketplace. PCGS and NGC have literally graded well over 1000 AU examples. All that changes at the mint state level, and the population drops off considerably in MS63. In the MS63 Prooflike designation, PCGS has certified just 15 coins with just 8 finer (there are a similar number of DMPL's but these tend to suffer in eye appeal at this grade).
The coin we offer here is a lovely, frosty choice uncirculated specimen with true prooflike frosted devices. It's 98% white overall with a hint of gold toning in the devices (lettering, stars and eagle's outline). In technical terms, we are remiss to understand why it was not afforded the MS64 PL grade. It's that nice. We see none of the deep marks on Liberty's cheek that plague this issue, and are generally seen on MS63 PL coins.
The buyer of this coin is sure to be thrilled with it's aesthetic and technical grade. A great example of a great key date.
