Item Description:
There were two kinds of "barter kits" issued by the U.S. Navy in WWII, one for the Atlantic region and one for Southeast Asia, like the present example. These were given to US Rangers who were the first ones on the ground in target areas as a tool to help them escape or evade enemy capture, if necessary. This kit contains two gold rings, a gold embossed pendant, a gold four-linked chain, and a 21-jewel Milus Swiss calendar watch. The Southeast Asia kit came in a plastic container that was quite easy to open, unlike the Atlantic kit, which reportedly required "Cyrogenics (freezing) or industrial acetone" in order to open. A truly fascinating piece of history; if it could only talk it would have quite a story to tell.
