Auction Name: Thursday - Internet Auction # 251.
Closed On: Thursday, June 5, 2008 5:03 PM.
Realized: $63,250.

Item Description:
Rich golden toning on the obverse with a stunning headlight reverse thick with cameo contrast. In fact the reverse qualifies for DCAM all day long.

All proofs of this year show a spur from the rocky base above the 5 in the date, this may be part of an extra 4 which was mispunched. The Philadelphia Mint finally began to coin more proofs in 1854, and today perhaps 30-50 are known. While this fact makes this date more available than any previous date in proof, they remain quite rare and infrequently offered for sale. It is the finest known in the cameo designation with a lone NGC 66 graded finer.
