Item Description:
An elusive issue with an original mintage of only 1,460 coins. This example is well struck but shows the characteristic weakness at the U of UNITED and the 5 of the date. Ample luster remains to justify the grade and there are no noticeable marks on either side.

We are at a loss to explain why the dies used at Dahlonega were of such poor quality. Each year, the dies were made at the Philadelphia Mint, then shipped to the Dahlonega facility...
