1848-C $2 1/2 NGC AU58

DLRC #: 87114 // PCGS #: 7750

Bright yellow, with Prooflike luster still evident in the protected areas. Struck from the curious bulged obverse die that often appears on this date – the bulging makes the field around the head look wavy (Breen calls this buckled die “rare”). AU-58 is an exceptional grade for this date – NGC has graded 27 at this level, but only 14 finer (the best being five examples at the MS-62 level.
