Item Description:
A completely original example that shows the appealing, green-tinted gold that is characteristic of the alloy found in the Southeast U.S. and minted at New Orleans. Like most O-Mint Double Eagles, this one has flat stars on the left side of the obverse, but the rest of the coin is nicely detailed. This was the last that any decent quantity (35,250 coins) of Double Eagles was produced at the New Orleans Mint prior to its closure in 1861 at the hands of the Confederacy.
